Do you know how the star appears in the sapphire? It is through a special optical process called asterism. There are tiny needles of silk suspended within the sapphire crystal which reflect light and form the brilliant star. Most star sapphires form a six-pointed star, although four-points and twelve also exist.
Star Sapphires are becoming more difficult to find, as the color is also desirable for faceted stones, and the process that creates the sparkling faceted gems destroys the silk threads that make the star. We were thrilled to source this stunning stone for our customer!
